Going on an Adventure

Posted on July 20, 2015

The new minibus and car hit the road yesterday as the Dragonfly children came together with the Rangers Out of School Club for an Adventure Day at Camp Hill.  The day started full of excitement and about what was to come, the children talking all the way.  Once we arrived the children were keen to begin collecting logs and branches for their base camp.  Leanne, our Forest School Leader led the day supported by our Play Rangers Beth and Rita.  The action packed day encouraged the children to make props to support the storytelling, to create shelters and to cook over the camp fire - we suspect the toasted marshmallows were the highlight for many!

The aim of our Forester Sessions is to build on children's innate motivation and positive attitude to learning, children become engaged with the outdoors which in turn fosters a love and respect for the natural world.  The children demonstrated wonderful team building skills, in particular we noted how the older children cared for and supported the younger children helping them to master new skills.

All too soon a very tired but happy bunch of children arrived back at Incy Wincy's to be greeted by staff and parents.

It was a fantastic day and we would like to say a very big THANK YOU to Camp Hill for allowing us to use their site for these sessions.  Keep an eye out for the minibus as the children set out on another adventure soon.
