The 10:08 to Leyburn
Posted on July 23, 2015
Today was the day...
After planning their trip on the Wensleydale Railway, 7 very excited Dragonfly children set off to walk to the station. Counting the adults and children they bought the tickets, before looking at the signals, gates and listening to the sounds that were all around. It seemed to take forever (though probably just over 5 minutes) for the train to pull into the station. Finally it arrived, the 10.08 to Leyburn - we were soon all aboard!
Along the way we watched out of the window as we traveled through the fields, waving enthusiastically to passersby. Listening to the engine and brakes as the train slowed down, then speeded up again soon provoked lots of interesting conversation.
"The engine sounds like a woodpecker"
"It's a diesel... I didn't think diesels had smoke"
"That's full of corn"
"We are up on a hill, we're taller than the houses"
"That's the engine"
"This train is fast"
Once we arrived, we walked up through the town to the 'Shawl' where we found a brilliant play park and picnic spot. It was time for a run around and to explore before sitting down to our picnic of yummy sandwiches, fruit and the cakes that we had baked the day before at nursery. After a final play we were pleased to see the Incy Wincy mini bus pull in ready to take us back to nursery - though one little boy did tell driver Stuart "you are 4 minutes late"!
It is wonderful to be able to set off on new adventures, keep an eye on this news section as we will be sharing our next adventure with you soon...
