Bees, Beetles and other Bugs!

Posted on June 22, 2016

A big thank you to Stacey for arranging such a fantastic day for our pre-school children up at Foxglove Covert nature reserve this week.  Once the children had their detection kit of bowl, magnifier & spoon the insect investigations began.  It led to the discovery of lots of insects and other bugs, as usual some of the children shared their previous learning telling others how to identify which were insects - they said with certainty that it is all to do with their legs and wings!

There were many things that caught the children's imagination not least the stuffed native animals in the rangers hut.  The children were fascinated as they watched the bees working away in the hive, so much so that returning to nursery one little artist created her own picture.

The Little Foresters are keen to repeat one of the activities which involved shaking the branches of a tree over a white bed sheet to see what surprises fell out.  Leanne would be grateful for any donations of old white sheets for her Little Foresters kit.  For families who would like to learn more about Foxglove Covert and the activities they organise please visit www.foxglovecovert.org.uk
