Going for Gold

Knowing it only comes around once during a child's time at nursery we could not resist getting into the Olympic spirit.  Using the Olympics as their starting point our staff team plan opportunities across all seven areas of learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage while ensuring all the children have alot of fun.  This week the children have been exploring our giant map to identify which countries are taking part and the flags that represent these, they have designed their own medals and talked about the positions 1st, 2nd & 3rd... before they headed out into Bedale Park to run their own races.

The British Heart Foundation manifesto asks for greater emphasis to be placed on the importance of physical activity across the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.  Making the best use of the nursery gardens and the park regularly ensures we are contributing to the 3 hours of physical activity that pre-school aged children need each day. Emma, Jess & their teams have the Caterpillars and Bumble Bees under starters orders too offering lots of tummy time and playful ways for the youngest children to move about.  I am sure many families will like us be watching more fantastic performances from team GB this weekend inspiring us to be even more sporty next week.
