Listening for Sounds
Posted on May 25, 2016
Staff in our Dragonfly Room know that at this time of year school readiness will be at the forefront of everyone minds. The Incy Wincy way is to make everything as fun and interactive as possible and where better to start than with a fabulous book. So with a 'Queck', 'Quook', 'Quock', 'Quuck' and finally a 'Quack' the children have been listening for sounds as we recently introduced another fabulous book from author Kes Gray and illustrator Jim Field 'Quick Quack Quentin'. The book brought about lots of giggles as we replaced the initial sound in the staff and the chidren's names to a 'Qu'; so Quarah, Queanne, Quannah and Quelissa would encourage parents to ask about other books in our Book Borrower Baskets that offer opportunities to play around and have fun with letter and sounds. While other authors are available Sarah's long standing favourite is another title by Kes Grey & Jim Field, 'Oi Frog' so much so that she is eagerly awaiting the release of the sequel 'Oi Dog' later this year!
P.S. for those as Mad about Maths in May as we are you may wish to take a peek at How Many Legs - yes you guessed it written and illustrated by Kes Gray & Jim Field.
