This is me!

The beginning of a new nursery year and time for our new and older pre-school children to get to know each other. Focusing on the children's personal, social & emotional development we have encouraged them to create a gallery of unique self portraits - each painted in a different artistic style! It has been lovely to hear the running commentary the children often give as they paint
"Pink skin,
Blue,
Yellow hair,
A circle face,
Nose pink like this"
Alongside the portraits we have family photographs the children have bought in from home, a great way to build relationships as they talk to one another about their houses, pets, brothers and sisters. It won't surprise you to hear that the children have been spending a lot of time in the Home Corner, domestic play is an area the children return to regularly as they act out all the things they see in real life. This week we are introducing a range of mathematical vocabulary as we look at all the numbers printed on the food packages (tins, boxes & cartons) that we have placed in this area aswell as the shapes and sizes of seasonal vegetables (Leanne has been eating alot of pretend vegetable soup). The children have asked if they can chop the vegetables up and we have the perfect opportunity for them on Friday as we prepare the real soup for our Harvest Tea.
