Trip To The Farm
Posted on June 10, 2016
This morning the Bumble Bee and Ladybird children suited up in their wellies and waterproofs headed off to Mowbray school farm. It was wet outside and on the way some of the Ladybirds were spotting puddles which they jumped in.
We were shown around the farm by the two farmers and they told us that there was some jobs to be done - we didn't realise this was a working visit! Firstly we all went slowly into the chicken enclosure being sure not to frighten them, the farmer showed us where the chickens lay their eggs. One by one we reached into the chicken coup and took out all the eggs and put them into the bucket. One of the children noticed the chicken food in the middle of the enclosure and asked what it was, we were shown how to fill this up and soon all the chickens were surrounding us wanting to get some food.
Next on the farm were the horses and the donkeys the children pointed out that they were eating the grass , some of the children thought the donkeys were a little bit to big so decided to to go and see the lambs instead. The lambs were very good, they were hiding underneath the shelter keeping nice and dry.
Other animals on the farm included pigs which made lots of funny noises and a goat who kept trying to jump on the farmer! A group of children were showing lots of interest in the houses of these animals, and were to keen to look at the goats hut. When we went to explore the field we noticed that there was a small paddling pool for the goat to have a bath in.
On the way back to nursery there was lots of chatter about all the animals we had seen at the farm, a group of children sang Old McDonald most of the way whilst some others were sleeping in the bus after a busy morning.
A big thank you to our friends and Mowbray - We hope to come back soon.
