The Kitchen Diaries
Posted on June 24, 2021
This week I have been supporting the children to learn more about cucumbers. How they grow, when to remove them from the plant, why we remove them and how we can use and preserve them. Today's harvest of 9 little cucumbers will be pickled for the children to try in 4 weeks time. They are very excited about tasting something new that they have grown themselves.
Our radishes have grown many leaves that we plan to use in the kitchen and in the next 2 weeks we should have those ready to harvest!
The gooseberries are swelling and will hopefully ripen in time for the Oat and Gooseberry slice next week, plus the redcurrants will be ready to pick for us all to try in a Redcurrant Sorbet!
We have completed the full cycle of the menu and the children's feedback has been positive, just one small change to make as they are not quite sold on the 'Frittata'.
I have started using the 'Earth & Wheat' box today to come up with some new snacks. We have started with Avocado & Cheddar wraps with fresh peach slices.
Stay tuned for next week's update!
